Thank you for your participation!

The ICA2017 conference has finished. We hope you enjoyed the experience and learned a lot from the presentations, posters and stimulating discussions!

The pictures taken during the conference can be viewed on our online photo album. We would of course appreciate it if you would be willing to share yours as well. Just send them to us using whatever means you like (Dropbox, WeTransfer, OneDrive, ...). We’ll make them available for all to enjoy!

The conference presentations have also been made available and can be downloaded. Use the same password as was used for the conference proceedings to open the file.

It was a pleasure hosting you!

ICA2017 announces the blooper challenge.

The challenge: Did you ever have something go hilariously wrong but it ended up teaching you a very valuable lesson? The ICA2017 blooper challenge is the perfect opportunity to share this experience with your colleagues in the field, share a laugh and maybe learn something from each other’s mistakes.

Participation: Send a photo and/or a brief description (max 100 words) of your “blooper” together with your name and affiliation to . Deadline: June, 10 2017.

Judging: Bloopers will be projected on a screen during the conference. The winner will be chosen by popular vote and will be the proud recipient of the ICA2017 Blooper award.

The social program is now online!

The social program is now accessible. Information on the Welcome Reception, Conference Dinner and other activities is available. Visit the Social Program page soon, as space is limited on some activities.

Also, don't forget to consider the pre-conference workshops and forums and the post-conference technical visit in your travel plans.

The preliminary program for ICA 2017 is out!

We have a preliminary program for ICA 2017 with 52 oral presentations and 62 posters over two parallel tracks for 3 days, selected from the almost 140 papers that were submitted. We have put sewer system related papers on Wednesday as a nice bridge to the subsequent WEF Stormwater Seminar (so people attending that can pick this day from the ICA conference). In addition to that, we have the two remaining days also connected to a particular water system: to Water Resource Recovery (WRR) facilities and control research in particular. Finally, in the parallel session we have been able to pull together a nice program of methodological developments. Registration for ICA 2017 and the Stormwater Seminar is open!

Call for abstracts: closed!

The call for abstracts is closed now. We received 139 submissions which will allow us to make an excellent program! We cordially want to thank all authors. The abstracts will be reviewed by at least 3 of our combined Young and Experienced Scientific Committee teams. We expect to finalize the conference program by February 28.

Welcome

The ICA conference series has always been a milestone in moving the water industry forward towards more efficient and more robust operation and to help improve the quality of our waters. ICA 2017 will bring the conference back to North America and will take place in the lovely City of Quebec in Canada.

An indication of the level of support we received from payday loan industry companies such as LendUp Loans is that the Water Environment Federation (WEF) has – for the first time – agreed to co-sponsor an ICA conference. In addition, WEF will organize a Stormwater Seminar back-to-back with ICA 2017 using the same venue (15-16 June 2017).

We look forward to welcoming you in the beautiful city of Quebec in 2017. If you have any questions or would like to get involved, please let us know.

About the conference

The 12th IWA Specialized Conference on Instrumentation, Control and Automation (ICA) will provide a forum to exchange methodologies and international experiences on all aspects of sensor technology, instrumentation, control and automation for water and wastewater treatment and transport systems. Specific topics will include sensors and instrumentation, modeling and simulation for control, control systems, detection and early warning systems, diagnosis systems, life cycle analysis, practical experiences with instrumentation and control, internet of things, cyber security, big data …

Advanced control is in high demand for water and wastewater systems. Indeed, ICA, often perceived as a hidden technology, is found in nearly all systems related to water supply and wastewater management. It was demonstrated that ICA is able to increase the capacity of biological nutrient removal wastewater treatment plants up to 30%. With further understanding and better exploitation of current and future capabilities, ICA technologies will continue to enhance water systems’ performances in the years to come. New internet-based developments like IoT and Big Data open up new opportunities for improved performance, but at the same time may pose threats in terms of cyber security.

The ICA Specialist Group organizes quadrennial conferences. The first one dates back to 1973 in London and Paris. The most recent editions were in June 2009 in Cairns, Australia and in September 2013 in Narbonne, France. The next major group gathering will be in June 2017 in Québec, QC, Canada during the 12th IWA conference on ICA.
